Advanced biofuels provide manifold opportunities for Europe especially during times of economic uncertainty and growing EU energy security concerns. However, the European Union is still missing the regulatory framework to boost the investments in advanced biofuels for 2020 and beyond. The on-going discussions on the ILUC file creates a momentum to enable advanced biofuels to be commercialized successfully and at a large scale in Europe.
What is the true potential of advanced biofuels?
Will there be sufficient feedstock?
Are technologies ready?
What environmental and economical benefits can they provide?
Against this background the Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels (LSB) met and discussed in a breakfast debate on “Advanced biofuels for sustainable & competitive EU economy” which took place on the 4th of December 2014 in the European Parliament in Brussels.
The high-level panel of speakers discussed the regulatory opportunities for the uptake of advanced biofuels in Europe to unlock their potential for a low-carbon and competitive EU economy.
