LanzaJet isnow commercializingtechnology that enables significant production globally for a drop-in sustainable fuel alternative to traditional fossil jet fuel. Theirpatented Alcohol-to-Jet(ATJ)technology produces SAF that can be made from a diverse and flexible set of feedstocks, including agriculturaland wood waste, industrial off-gases,municipal solid waste, and recycled carbon. In early 2024, LanzaJet will open LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels, the world’s first ATJ SAF commercial production plant in Soperton, Georgia, United States. LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels will produce 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel per year from ethanol.LanzaJet has announced projects across the world, including Project Speedbird in the United Kingdom and other European ventures in various stages of development.

Jimmy Samartzis, Chief Executive Officer at LanzaJet commented: “At LanzaJet, we are committed to ensuring the aviation industry can meet its ambitious goals to be carbon neutral by 2050. We’re thrilled to be joining the Advanced Biofuels Coalition, an organization committed to promoting sustainable fuels across transportation sectors. LanzaJet looks forward to continuing our engagement across Europe with the leading industries and sectors working hard to meet the urgency of climate change.”

Erich Cuaz, Chair of Advanced Biofuels Coalition commented: “LanzaJet joining our coalition is a great example of industry leadership in advancing the crucial defossilization efforts in transportation.. Their global expertise in pioneering Sustainable Aviation Fuels will greatly help the coalition in further promoting sustainable technologies under ambitious, though realistic policy frameworks.

Advanced biofuels made from wastes and residues as defined in Renewable Energy Directive Annex IX Part A, are a sustainable solution to reduce emissions in industry and transport, including also harder to decarbonize transport modes such as sustainable aviation fuels, maritime transport, and heavy-duty transport, as well as wider applications such as in the off-grid energy sector. Since the adoption of REDII in 2018, several investments have moved forward and are contributing to the EU’s goal of achieving dramatic reduction in transport CO2 emissions. The Advanced Biofuels Coalition represents the leading companies in the advanced biofuels industry, strongly supports the EU target for climate-neutrality by 2050 and the need for more ambitious 2030 intermediate targets.

About the Advanced Biofuels Coalition

Advanced biofuels are a fast-track solution to decarbonizing transport. Advanced Biofuels Coalition consists of leading advanced biofuels technology developers and producers committed to making a significant contribution to meeting the EU ambitions of decarbonizing EU. Traditionally used mainly in the transport sector, the use of advanced biofuels is increasing also in other sectors. Advanced biofuels bring multiple benefits in terms of CO2 reduction, investments, revenues for farmers and forest owners, improved waste management practices, job creation and an increase in energy security.
