The Advanced Biofuels Coalition is pleased to welcome SkyNRG as its latest member. SkyNRG is a global leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Since 2009, the company has been scaling up SAF demand and production capacity.
SkyNRG was the first in the world to supply SAF on a commercial flight flown by co-founder and shareholder KLM in 2011. To date, SkyNRG has supplied SAF to over 40 airlines across the world. The company is currently developing its own dedicated SAF production plants in the Netherlands and the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
Tom Berg, Senior Policy and Sustainability Manager at SkyNRG commented: “Joining the Advanced Biofuels Coalition is a great opportunity for SkyNRG to work with partners who are equally committed to scaling up the production of sustainable biofuels for aviation. Advanced biofuels are a critical piece of the puzzle to rapidly ‘defossilize’ aviation. As a supplier and future producer of sustainable aviation fuel, we look forward to working together to accelerate the transition to sustainable biofuels for aviation and safeguarding a stronger role for these fuels in the EU’s climate agenda.”
Sophia Haywood, Chair of Advanced Biofuels Coalition commented: “With SkyNRG as a new member, the Coalition gains a wealth of experience and innovation. Their pioneering efforts will undoubtedly bolster our mission of advocating for sustainable technologies within EU legislation.”
Advanced biofuels made from wastes and residues as defined in Renewable Energy Directive Annex IX Part A, are a sustainable solution to reduce emissions in industry and transport, including also harder to decarbonize transport modes such as sustainable aviation fuels, maritime transport, and heavy-duty transport, as well as wider applications such as in the off-grid energy sector. Since the adoption of REDII in 2018, several investments have moved forward and are contributing to the EU’s goal of achieving dramatic reduction in transport CO2 emissions. The Advanced Biofuels Coalition represents the leading companies in the advanced biofuels industry, strongly supports the EU target for climate-neutrality by 2050 and the need for more ambitious 2030 intermediate targets.
